Higo Kuyomon Karakusa Zogan Tsuba


This tsuba is made by the modern Kinko, Mr. Kato Motonobu in Kita-kyushu. This is THE tsuba which won the Nyusen Prize in the Heisei 15th year (2003) Shinsakuto Exhibition. It accompanies its award paper as seen below.

The sukashi of this tsuba is well-known tomoe (cloud whirl) and the Kuyomon (nine-circles) mon inlayed was the symbol of the famous Taira no Masakado. It is very difficult to have a chance to awarded piece in market. The size is 8cm X 7.7cm and about 4.5 mm thick.
